Long ago, a merchant selling.
weapons appeared in a village.
The merchant was explaining his spears and shields to the villagers.
"Okay, this is the best spear. You can pierce any shield with this spear."
Upon hearing that, the villagers bought the spears from the merchant.
The merchant sold all his spears and didn't have any left.
"Ha ha, this spear can pierce anything."
"Yeah, really. It's great spear. I can't hunt or fight with this spear now."
Everyone was excited. The merchant saw this and said excitedly.
"I'll be selling shields in a little while. Come back and see."
The villagers were curious as to what kind of a shield it was.
The merchant finished his meal and began selling in the market again.
People heard out him and gathered to buy weapons.
"Okay. this shield is very strong and can block any spear."
The villagers believed what he said and began buying the shields.
It wasn't long before the merchant sold all his shields.
The merchant was so happy he wanted to dance with joy.
But an old man said to the merchant.
"Hey, everything you sell is great."
"But what happens when the spear you sold this morning fights against the shield you just sold?"
The villagers began to mumble.
"According to what you said, Your spear can pierce anything and your shield can block everything."
The people realized that they had been cheated.
"You lying merchant"
The villagers all returned their spears and shields and got their money back.
The lying merchant turned red and ran away as quickly as he could.

A farmer became old and was about to die.
The farmer gathered his three song and told them.
"My sons, I will not live much longer.
I called you to tell you where I buried some treasures.
The sons had not wanted to work and they were interested in what their father said.
"Tell us, father, where are the treasures?"
"I hid it in the vineyard. Find it and divide it among yourselves."
"Where in the vineyard is it?"
"I hid it so long ago, I can't remember."
The farmer left these words and died.
When the farmer died, the sons hurried out to the vineyard with shovels.
It was to find the treasures that their father buried.
The vineyard was so large, the sons dug every day.
However, there were no treasures.
"Hmph, do you think father lied to us?"
"Yeah, where are the treasures?"
The sons kept complaining.
"No. I'm sure it's here somewhere."
The youngest son began digging again and the older sons dug again because they wanted the treasures.
No matter how much they dug, they couldn't find any treasures.
The sons were disappointed and gave up.
In the summer, they discovered delicious large grapes.
It was a result of all the hard work the sons did.
It was then that they realized that the treasures that their father left them was the grapes.
After then, the sons lived happily raising grapes.

The dog and the horse did not get along.
They were always fighting when they met.
'Hmph, that horse is always boasting. I can't stand the sight of him.'
The dog thought of a wqy to play a trick.
But it was not easy to think of a trick.
One day, their owner was putting food in the horse's manger.
'That's it!'
'That's how I'll play a trick on that horse.'
The dog thought up a trick and smiled to himself.
The next day, the owner put food in the manger again.
The dog was hiding and ran to the manger.
He went in the manger and lied down.
The horse was surprised and looked at the dog.
"Heh heh, this is my spot from now on."
The dog looked at the horse and smiled.
The horse was hungry, but it could not eat because of the dog.
'Ha ha, you're starving, aren't you?'
The dog thought it succeeded in playing a trick and was very happy.
The horse stared at the dog for a long time and said.
"What a miserable dog."
"Do you think you're really smart?"
"You're going to starve too by not letting me eat."
When the dog heard the horse, if felt its stomach growling.
The dog could not stand to be hungry.
It camd out of the manger and went home.

There was a big handsome magpie.
He was always ashamed of living with other magpies.
How can a handsome magpie like me live with such ugly guys?
So one day the handsome magpie went to the village of eagles.
"Great dagle, would you kindly allow me to live with you?＂
He said to an eagle.
After hearing the magpie's request, the eagle examined him all over with his big and bright eyes.
"What? You want to live with us?
How do you think you can live with us?
You don't look like us.
You voice sounds different from ours.
You impudent bird, get out of here right now!"
It seemed that the eagle was ready to peck the magpie with his sharp beak at once.
The magpie escaped quickly and flew to another eagle.
"What? Such an ugly magpie as you wants to live with such great eagles as us?"
The second eagle drove away the magpie with his dreaded wings.
The smart-aleck magpie was depressed and shed tears.
He had no choice but to return to his native place.
"Pshaw! Why did you return impudently after leaving us on the grounds that you hated to live with us? Do you think well welcome you? Get out of here right now! "
Even his friends angrily drove him away.
At last the smart-aleck magpie lived alone until he died.

The wolf discovered a goat eating grass on a cliff.
"Oh, a meal. It's goat. Hee hee hee. Oh, good. I'll eat him for dinner."
The wolf smacked his lips and talked to the goat.
"Hey, Goat, what are you doing here?"
But, the goat did not answer.
The wolf talked again.
"Hey, it looks dangerous up there."
"If you slip, you'll fall below."
The goat did not listen and continued to eat grass.
"Hmph! Is he deaf.."
But the wolf did not give up.
"Hey, listen to me. I think it is really dangerous for you to be eating grass up there."
"Besides, the grass over here is much better than the grass over there."
The wolf continued to talk th the goat.
"Wow... Look at this grass. It looks so delicious."
The goat looked at the wolf and spoke.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think you're saying that for my sake."
"I know that you're doing that to eat me. So, forget it."
Upon hearing that, the wolf gave up and returned.

The Frog Whose Belly Burst
One day a young frog, who lived in a pond, went to his father and said,
"Daddy, I saw a very Terrible monster."
He is as big as a mountain.
"He has horns on his head."
"When he stamps his feet with thumps, wow!"
Seeming very disappointed, the father frog answered as if to say it wasn't interesting or surprising at all.
"My son, it's an ox living on the farm."
"I've never seen such a terrible monster before."
"Ha-ha, good boy! He's nothing.
He's not so big. He's just a little bigger than me. Look at me."
The father frog breathed in air to blow up his belly.
"Was the ox as big as this?"
The young frog shook his head.
"Much bigger than that.""was he as big as this?"
"No, much bigger."
The father frog breathed in more air.
And not only his belly but also his whole body grew much bigger.
"Was he as big as this?"
"No, much bigger than that."
In order to make his body larger then the ox and show it off,
the father frog breathed in as much air as he could using all his energy.
"Probebly the ox wasn't as big..."
he stammered.
But his belly burst before he could finish his remark. Bang!
"Daddy! Daddy!"
The young frog cried very loudly.

Long long ago, there was a scary flood.
The water was going to swallow up the whole world.
Fortunately, the tiger, lion, rabbit and deer knew there was going to be a flood and began running to the top of the mountain.
"Whew, we almost died in that flood."
"Yeah, if we were a little late, we would have died."
Everybody was relieved at the top of the mountain.
"Help. Help."
Huh? who could that be?
It was the dandelion who wasn't able to escape the flood like the other plants.
The water gradually reached the dandelion and the dandelion was scared.
"What should I do, I can't move."
The dandelion was still young so it couldn't move.
The dandelion was so scared, it clasped it hands and prayed.
"Dear god, please help me."
"If you save me, I will serve you for the rest of my life."
The dandelion cried and prayed.
Suddenly, thd dandelion was given wings and began to fly in the air.
It landed on the mountain top.
That is how the dandelion was able to live.
Since then, the dandelion always bloomed looking at the sky.

A fisherman living alone by a river caught a big carp.

'Probably I'll be punished if I kill this big carp.'
On returning home, he put the carp in a jar to keep her.
One day when he returned home from work, he was surprised to see a meal already prepared on the table.
'Wow!!! Who prepared this meal in this house where I live alone?'
Next day the fisherman pretended to go to work but hid himself to carefully watch inside his house.
After a while the carp turned into a lady and got out of the jar.
She went into the kitchen and cooked food.
And after preparing a meal, she came back to go into the jar.
"Lady! Lady Carp!"
When the fisherman called her, the lady carp was surprised and said,
"I'm the daughter of the King of the Sea.
One day I came up to the river to see the human world, and you caught me there.
I'm really grateful to you for sparing me."
"Lady,
I live alone now.
I request you to marry me, please."
"But there is a precondition.
Never see me having a bath for one year.
Please!"
"I see. I promise I won't."
The fisherman began to live with the lady carp.
But one day when it was almost a year since then,
he made the mistake of peeping at her having a bath.
Suddenly she turned into the carp again and floundered.
"If you had kept your promise for one year,
I would have become a life-long human lady as your wife.."
At last the fisherman shed tears and let the carp go into the river.

"We have to take revenge for being captured like this."
"I'm going to turn into a strawberry and make him die when he eats me."
"I'm going to became water and make him die when he drinks me.
"If our plans fail, i'm going to became a stone and make him die when he falls off his horse."
The stories were waiting for an opportunity to take revenge.
Fortunately, the servant heard the stories talking.
The servant went with the man to fetch his bride.
On the way, the man saw some delicious strawberries.
"I want to eat those strawberries!"
"Those strawberries don't look delicious. Let's just go."
The servant quickly took the man away.
"I'm thirsty, let's drink some water!"
"No, we don't have time."
The two arrived at the bride's house.
When the man tired to get off the horse, the servant carried the man.
The servant was able to prevent the stories from taking revenge.
The next morning, the servant told the man about everything.
The man realized what he had done was wrong.
After that, the man always told other people about the stories he heard.
That is how we are able to hear many fun stories today.

Long ago, there lived a pretty lady named Bongseon.
Bongseon had a talent of playing the geomungo.
People came to hear Bongseon play, but she was so shy she could not paly in front of other people.
One day, the king called Bongseon to the palace so he could hear her play.
"Will you play for me?"
Shy Bongseon carefully played the geomungo for the king.
But she was so nervous, she made many mistakes.
"It was a false rumor. That's terrible. Get out of here."
The king was angry. He scolded Bongseon and kicked her out.
Since then, Bongseon became ill and lay in bed.
She played well, but she had made mistakes because she was so shy.
"The king is coming. The king is coming."
One day, the king passed by Bongseon's house.
Bongseon heard the king was passing. She got up and gave all her strength to play the geomungo.
The sound was so beautiful.
The king stopped at Bongseon's house when he heard the music.
The king felt pity for Bongseon when he saw her fingers bleeding from playing.
He wrapped her fingers and praised her.
But, Bongseon had gotten so weak she died a few days later.
Red flowers bloomed from Bongseon's grave.
People thought it was Bongseon's soul. It is the touch-me-not.
That is why people still dye their fingernails with the touch-me-not.
Shy touch-me-nots burst out of surprise when people touch them.
